Invited or Extension Lecture:
a) Invited Lecture by Dr. Sasanka Gayen, Professor, Department of Geography, Coochbehar Panchanan Barma University, Coochbehar, West Bengal, Title of lecture: ‘Research Methodology Applications in Geography’
b) Invited Lecture by Dr. Dr. Biplab Biswas, Professor, Department of Geography, The University of Burdwan, Burdwan, Title of lecture: ‘Application of GIS & RS in the Analysis of Kolkata’s Waterlogging’
a) Invited or Extension Lecture was organized by the department for the Undergraduate students of 2nd and 4th semester.

Resource Person: Dr. Sasanka Gayen, Professor, Department of Geography, Coochbehar Panchanan Barma University, Coochbehar, West Bengal delivered lecture on Research methodology for the students of Geography.
Outcome: The lecture was about the need of research methodology in geography. As the students of UG have adopted 4 years Honours course, they need to be proficient in research methodology. Thus, the lecture was highly beneficial for our students.
b) Invited or Extension Lecture was organized by the department for the Undergraduate students of 2nd and 4th semester.

Resource Person: Dr. Biplab Biswas, Professor, Department of Geography, The University of Burdwan, Burdwan, West Bengal delivered lecture on Flood hazard in Kolkata metro based on GIS application.
Outcome: The students were made aware of the urban flood situation in Kolkata and the necessity of urban planning, application of GIS, RS in mapping urban flood and taking necessary measures.
c) Faculty Exchange Programme lecture was organized by the department for the Undergraduate students of 4th semester. The students of 2nd semester also attended the lecture.
Resource Person: Dr. Sucharita Pramanick, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Surendranath College for Women, Kolkata delivered an Invited Lecture on ‘Social Problems in Urban Areas: Poverty and Crime’ on 02.05.2025 in the Department of Geography, Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah.
d) Faculty Exchange Programme lecture was organized by the department for the Undergraduate students of 4th semester. The students of 2nd semester also attended the lecture.
Resource Person: Ms. Sushonova Mondal, State Aided College Teacher - I, Department of Geography, Surendranath College for Women, Kolkata delivered a Special Lecture on ‘Development of River Network and Landforms on Folded Structure’ on 02.05.2025 in the Department of Geography, Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah.
e) Faculty Exchange Programme lecture was organized by the department for the Undergraduate students of 4th semester.
Resource Person: Dr. Joydeep Saha, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah delivered an Invited Lecture on ‘Human Adaptation to the Environment: Chenchu, Toda and Gond’ on 25.4.2025 in the Department of Geography, Surendranath College for Women.
Outcome: The students were benefited as the topics in the syllabus are covered.
f) Faculty Exchange Programme lecture was organized by the department for the Undergraduate students of 4th semester.
Resource Person: Dr. Bhaskar Chaudhuri, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah delivered a Lecture on Social Problems in Rural Areas: Marginalisation and Deprivation on 25.4.2025 in the Department of Geography, Surendranath College for Women.
Outcome: The students were benefited by this lecture as their syllabus is covered and they are made aware of this dynamic issue.
g) Alumni Lecture was organized on 10.1.2025 organized by the department for the Postgraduate students of 4th semester at Department of Geography, Surendranath College for Women. Ritwika Mitra of 2017-19 M.Sc. batch delivered a lecture on career prospects in Master’s in Planning. The 4th semester students of M.Sc. Geography attended the alumni lecture.
Outcome: The lecture benefited the students as the students are not so much aware of the prospects of urban planning and the related career opportunities.
h) PG department organized wall magazine on ‘Life on Street’. The wall magazine was supervised by SACT-I teachers Ritula Paul and Pritha Saha, inaugurated by Anuradha Sinha (teaching faculty of our college).
Outcome: The wall magazine focused on the homeless people in Kolkata and the urgent need to develop some measures for their shelter and safety.
i) UG 2nd semester students organized a wall magazine on East Kolkata wetland degradation and conservation. Global warming, climate change and human intervention have worsened the problem. The wall magazine was supervised by Dr. Bhaskar Chaudhuri, Associate Professor, Department of Geography of our college and is inaugurated by Dibyendu Ganguly, Assistant Professor of Sociology department.
Outcome: The students successfully emphasized the need of wetland conservation.
DEPARTMENTAL ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

Alumni Lecture was organized on 12.9.2025 organized by the department for the Postgraduate students of 3rd semester at Department of Geography. Rasmoni Karak, a research fellow at IISWBM – now engaged in a project in the Asian Development Bank delivered a lecture on career prospects in Master’s in Development Studies. The 3rd semester students of M.Sc. Geography attended the alumni lecture.
Outcome: The lecture benefited the students as the students are not so much aware of the prospects of Development Studies and the related career opportunities.
