The History Department began its sojourn on 21.01.1948, half a year after the college was born. The early years witnessed the contribution of several illustrious faculty members who, with their knowledge, teaching skills, and passion for disseminating this subject, made the department interesting and popular. Today it enjoys students from a largely varied section of society. The department regularly organises extension lectures, educational tours, museum visits, and workshops, with active interaction of the pupils and faculty. To enhance various capabilities of the students, the department arranges micro teaching sessions, students’ seminars, and history quizzes and debates. The department also conducts parent-teacher meetings on a regular basis to facilitate communication between stakeholders.

• The mission of this department is to primarily develop a ‘sense of history’ among its students.
• In a thriving democratic country like ours, which has a rich ancient past, it is important to study it in the most objective manner possible to enable students to understand the present and develop a critical foresight about the future.
• We seek to inspire interest in museums, archeological sites, and in libraries as sources of knowledge along with classroom teaching, and make the students aware of our cultural heritage.
• To impart the new CBCS syllabus lucidly and make learning informative and enjoyable amongst the students.
• Promote interaction between the student and the teacher for all-around betterment.
