HISTORY

ACHIEVEMENTS

1. Book Bank-The History department has set up a book bank in memory of our former teacher Prof. Sikha Majumdar, for students of the department. This was initiated at the behest of Prof. Karabi Mitra, and the fund is run by the departmental faculty in the year 2025

2. The Department of History annually organizes World Heritage Day celebration. Prof Madhuparna      Raychaudhury of the Ancient Indian History and Culture Department spoke on the Kichakeswari Temple of Orissa on 25TH April 2025.

3. Capacity Building Programme- The history students had participated in the Intra-college capacity building programme and won the third prize for their presentation.

4. Over the years, the department has successfully organised various UGC-CPE-sponsored national and international seminars, notably on ‘Voices of Protest’, ‘Perspectives on the Early Medieval History of India’, and ‘Reappraising the Partition of India’.

 5. The department has collaborated with other departments to organize conferences on the Gandhian philosophy and the socio-political thought of Vivekananda.

6. In its effort to archive local history, the department has participated in an inter-disciplinary consortium on ‘The History and Culture of the District of Howrah’.

 7. The department also has to its credit several publications.
