Extension Lecture 

Session 2022-23 (June- May)

An extension lecture titled “Normalcy, Disorder, Crime: Discourses in relation to Personality and Gender” was conducted offline on 5th April 2023 at Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah. The event was organized jointly by the IQAC and the college's Department of Psychology. The lecture was institution-wide in scope and featured Prof. Jayanti Basu from the Department of Applied Psychology at the University of Calcutta as the resource person. The session was conducted without any external funding or collaborators.

Session 2024-2025 (June- May)

An extension lecture on “Stress Management in the Digital Era” was organized by the Department of Psychology and IQAC of Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah, on 12th November 2024. The lecture was delivered by Ms. Bipasha Chatterjee, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, Sister Nivedita University, with the inaugural address by Dr. Sonu Darnal, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, BKGC. The program was attended by faculty members and students from multiple departments. Ms. Chatterjee highlighted strategies to manage everyday stress, emphasizing the importance of balancing academics, work, relationships, and leisure, and addressing digital stress caused by constant connectivity and excessive use of social media and devices. She suggested practical techniques such as setting boundaries, mindfulness, deep breathing, and meditation to alleviate stress. An interactive Q&A session further enriched the program. The lecture was well-received, providing valuable insights and practical guidance to students and faculty, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Suparna Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology.

 

Micro Teaching Session (2024-25, June- May)

During the 2024–25 session (June–May), the Department of Psychology of Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah organized an offline institutional micro-teaching session on “Neuron and Neural Conduction” on 29th November 2024. The session was conducted entirely by the department without external funding or collaborators and did not feature an external resource person. A total of 23 participants attended the session, which focused on enhancing practical teaching skills and understanding key concepts related to neurons and neural conduction in a classroom setting.

 

Departmental Seminar (Session 2024–25, June - May)

On 14th May 2025, the Department of Psychology in collaboration with IQAC, Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah, organized an offline institutional student seminar titled “Different Aspects of Psychology”. The seminar was chaired by Prof. Papiya Samanta Bag, Assistant Professor, Department of Education. A total of 55 students participated, presenting three topics: Trauma, Wired or Wounded?, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), covering psychological, neuropsychological, and coping aspects. The seminar aimed to enhance students’ research understanding, presentation skills, confidence, peer learning, and collaborative abilities. Students delivered well-prepared presentations, received constructive feedback, and were awarded certificates of participation. The session concluded successfully, fostering academic, professional, and interpersonal development. The programme helped students improve communication, analytical, and soft skills, motivating them for further learning and academic pursuits.

 

World Mental Health Day 2025

On 21st November 2024, the Department of Psychology in collaboration with IQAC, Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah, organized an offline institutional programme to celebrate World Mental Health Day. The event was titled “Behavioural Addiction: An Overview and Implication for Present Day and Society” and featured Dr. Ushri Banerjee, Associate Professor, Department of Applied Psychology, University of Calcutta, as the resource person. The programme focused on raising awareness about behavioural addictions, their impact on individuals and society, and strategies for prevention and intervention. It was well-received by students and faculty, fostering discussion and understanding of contemporary mental health issues.
